![]() ![]() the silence is then broken by her spiteful laughter. It's good to note when there is a true silent scene, even briefly-which I think is only most notable when Sandler's character asks his wife during the Passover dinner to reconsider the divorce. The music and sounds are meant to be very off putting and sporadic-give you this feeling of chaos, sloppiness, just buzzing noise. almost everything is at others expense and i think for howie thatll extend til the day his heart stops tickin. hes a complete weasel and i think, in my mind, he will continue to weasel until he dies the most unsatisfying death of natural causes to those around him. i can absolutely imagine that after the curtains fall theres a whole other movie about howie recovering and going to the hospital and still making deals and bets in the hospital as hes recovering, switching TVs in the fire ward to get the basketball game or using money wired to him for medical expenses on further gambling cause i absolutely cannot see this kinda guy having health insurance for some reason. he was not shot in a necessarily fatal place plus it makes so much sense for this guy who rats his way around life to also rat his way out of death. Just saw this and honestly such a solid movie! I cant really say anything others havent said but I will inject my own input on the end. They convinced me to sacrifice another hour but it did not get any better. So as you can see i feel pretty strongly about this, almost angry that it stole 2 Hours of my time…And a little bit angry at all those super positive reviews, cause half way through the movie - i was so confused about what the point of this movie, that i paused and went to check reviews on reddit. ![]() And what’s with the whole jew parts of the story? It doesn’t really add up to anything. And the main characters aren’t even remotely believable to me - someone like Howard, who is always lieing and using everything and everyone to his own profit, just lets someone walk out with his opal like that? In company of someone he just had stress with? Really? No way that would happen to a real profi and someone from this business. It had nothing to do with good storytelling or direction - it’s just people screaming or talking jibberish non-stop most of the time, and for the parts where non-stop talking wasn’t possible - they just combined “slow” talking with some background elevator music, just to keep your anxiety going. For me the way they tried to keep you “on the edge of your seat” felt cheap. What is it even about? It’s like it doesn’t have any point - there is a pathetic sleazy looser running around, stressing, hustling, playing with fire out of lack of choice and obviously loosing at the end. Worthless of my time, worthless of the actors, worthless of the hype. I just watched it and i absolutely did not like it at all. I am so utterly confused about all the excited reviews in this and other threads. Now, to be honest, this move does have a subtle character development, it's just based on luck and money lol, cuz he does win. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but for some people who identify more with the Hollywood shaped ideals, they want characters that are going to improve and develop in a specific way. But when you watch the British stuff, there is no redeemable characters, they are just bad and they stay that way lol. When the Office came to America, they realized the difference in taste and they had to make it more palatable for the Hollywood consuming type who want redeemable characters and happy endings. Even consider mainstream tv show hit like the British version of The Office, the original show - all the characters were so bad, but that's why people liked it. I'm surprised how many people here are commenting that they couldn't stand the movie because there was no likeable characters lol - I guess it's a cultural thing, because if you've watch indie shows or movies, and international content like British shows you get it (I'm not British, I'm Canadian, but when I was growing up on the farm with my dial up, I'd hunt down eccentric and weird British comedies to watch on the computer). Screenplay by Ronald Bronstein, Benny Safdie, Josh Safdie When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win. Howard Ratner, a charismatic New York City jeweler, is always on the lookout for the next big score.
